Posting 2/4/2011
Since I destroyed my plant I guess I am just going to talk a little about my project due this Monday. First off the invasive species I found most interesting is the Eichhornia Crassipes, most commonly known as a water orchid. This is an invasive species because what it does is spread rapidly on the top ponds and lakes, suffocating the life underwater as well as blocking waterways. The reason I was so interested in this particular species was because it is such a magnificently gorgeous plant yet it is a killer and causes harm to so many other species. For my final piece, I decided to do a painting of these beautiful water orchids. The reason I chose to do a painting is because I think paintings really would bring out the beauty in these plants. On the back of the painting I wanted to show kind of what the result of these plants do, so on the front there's going to be the beautiful plant and on the back will be these dead morbid plants, really juxtaposing the two. I want to have it hanging up in the room so that when people walk in they only see the beauty of the plant and unexpectedly as walk around the room they will notice the dead plants that the orchids kill.
